This February, we are excited to bring a deliciously innovative dish to our menu: Pupusabirria! Available from February 8th to 28th at both our North and South locations, this mouthwatering fusion is sure to take your taste buds on an unforgettable journey.
Presented by: Roxana Garcia
The inspiration behind this unique dish comes from one of our talented cooks, Roxana Garcia. During our internal San Valentín contest, Roxana presented the Pupusabirria, blending two of the most iconic dishes from Mexican and Salvadoran cuisines into one mouthwatering creation.
The Inspiration Behind the Dish
The Pupusabirria is an innovative mix that brings together the best of two rich culinary traditions: the beloved Mexican birria and El Salvador’s famous pupusas. This fusion was inspired by the idea of combining these two flavors to celebrate the vibrant culinary cultures of both countries. The result? A perfect marriage of savory birria in a warm, golden pupusa!
Ingredients for this Flavor Explosion
For the Pupusas:
- Corn flour (to make the masa)
- Water (to form the dough)
- Salt (to taste)
- Grated cheese (fresh cheese or mozzarella for the filling)
- Birria meat
For the Broth:
- Birria consommé
Extras for Serving:
- Chopped cilantro
- Diced onions
How to Prepare the Pupusabirria
- Birria: We use the traditional birria, slow-cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor and tender meat.
- Pupusas: Start by preparing the masa with corn flour, water, and salt. Form small dough balls, flatten them, and fill them with birria and cheese. Close them up and shape them into disks. Cook them on the griddle with a little oil until they’re golden and crispy on both sides.
- Assembly: Once the pupusas are ready, place them in a little birria consommé to soak up all that incredible flavor. Serve with pickled red onions, fresh cilantro, and a squeeze of lime for that perfect finishing touch.
